Fiji’s Bainimarama vows to respect election result as polls close

Vote counting is underway in Fiji’s general election — which has two former coup leaders vying to become prime minister.
Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama vowed to respect the outcome of the election, which is being seen as a test of the Pacific nation’s democracy.
The vote on Wednesday was the third democratic election in Fiji since Bainimarama, who seized power in a coup in 2006, introduced a new constitution in 2013.
